Travel Grants
Application Form :: PDF :: Word

The Executive Board of the Midwest Writing Centers Association is pleased to announce travel grant awards to support the scholarship, service, and conference participation of undergraduate and graduate writing center consultants who are attending or presenting their research and scholarship at IWCA, NCPTW, or the MWCA conferences. This fall, Scholarship & Travel Grants of $300 will be awarded to support travel for student consultants who plan on attending the 2009 MWCA Annual Regional Conference in Rapid City, South Dakota, at the end of October. All undergraduate and graduate student writing consultants who are attending or presenting at the conference are encouraged to apply for funding.

Consultants who have had conference proposals accepted will be considered first; those attending but not presenting at the conference will then be considered for funding.

Conference registration fees (up to $80) will also be reimbursed.

Qualifications:

Applicants must be undergraduates or graduate students currently working in MWCA member writing centers. The MWCA board especially welcomes applications from undergraduate consultants, consultants from underrepresented groups (consultants from underrepresented groups may self-identify on the required application form), and consultants who have never presented at or attended a regional conference or the IWCA or NCPTW conferences.

Because MWCA grants are awarded based on availability of funding and quality of the travel grant proposal, applicants are not guaranteed funding.

Interested writing center consultants must submit an application form and a letter of application, addressed to the MWCA Board, in which the applicant discusses how his or her experiences working in writing centers, including daily consulting/tutoring, research, and/or administrative work, make him or her a good candidate for a Scholarship & Travel Grant.

Deadlines & Process:

MWCA invites applications for Scholarship & Travel Awards throughout the year; typically, there is no specific deadline for applications. However, for consideration for the fall 2009 MWCA Annual Regional Conference, Scholarship & Travel Grant applications should be submitted by October 2, 2009, with notification of awards via e-mail by October 16th and presentation of the grant at the open meeting at 2009 MWCA Conference (time/place of meeting to be determined).
