Who can join MWCA?

Our membership is inclusive; administrators, faculty, staff, graduate students, and undergraduates all enjoy the benefits of their involvement with the MWCA. Members come from middle schools, high schools, community colleges, and universities. Not all members are from writing centers; many come from a variety of writing programs and student support services.

How does membership work?

Membership is $30 for individuals or $80 for institutions. The institutional membership will cover all individuals from your institution as members. MWCA membership runs from January 1st through December 31st each calendar year. Because most members need to renew their membership sometime before the fall conference, this schedule gives members more flexibility for budgeting. We consider you a member “in good standing” (and you will continue to receive newsletters) if you have renewed your membership for the year no later than the fall conference.

Why join MWCA?

MWCA membership provides you with a powerful source of support for your own scholarship, administrative work, and teaching/tutoring as well as a way to connect with colleagues within the Midwest. As an administrator, you can do more for students, yourself and your writing center through your contacts with the MWCA via our newsletters, the annual fall conference, and our web site. As an undergraduate or graduate student tutoring in a writing center, you can find opportunities to meet other tutors in your region, contribute to the research on writing centers through conference presentations, and apply for student travel and research scholarships. Through your membership, you'll keep in touch with the field and establish friendships with other writing center folks throughout Iowa, Wisconsin, Illinois, Missouri, Minnesota, North Dakota, South Dakota, Michigan, Kansas, and Nebraska.
