Citation: The North Central Section of the Mathematical Association of America awards its 17th annual certificate of Meritorious Service to Dr. Jennifer R. Galovich of Saint John's University.
Jennifer Galovich received her bachelor’s degree from Reed College, her master’s from Brown University and her Ph.D. from the University of Minnesota, specializing in Combinatorics. She has been a faithful member of our section since 1971, and is known by all for her dedicated service, her thoughtful questions to speakers, her friendliness, and her support over the years, both in our section and nationally. In earlier years she taught at Carleton College and St. Olaf College. She has been teaching at St. John’s University and the College of St. Benedict since 1986 and is currently department chair.
Jennifer has served the section as president from 2004 to 2005 (and so President-Elect and Past President) and Governor from 2007 until now. She helped organize not one, but two summer seminars for the section—in 2005 and 2009. Her energy and organizing skills have helped “behind the scenes” in other section endeavors. She has also given contributed talks and been on panels at section meetings.
At national MAA meetings Jennifer has contributed talks and been on panels as well. In addition, she has been on the national CUPM committee and an organizing member and officer of BIOSIGMAA, the special interest group for mathematical biology.
Her students know her as a dedicated and innovative teacher. She has mentored a number of them in undergraduate research while continuing her own scholarship.
The North Central Section is grateful for Dr. Galovich’s long and distinguished record of generous service to the section and the whole mathematics community and is happy to honor her with this Meritorious Service Award.
